A night of rest. HP isn’t completely crap. Still bear signs of trauma. No longer I shall tarry in my duty. My state must suffice
Rak, Sho, and Mirei wish to head to the ship and report our findings on food and water. I cannot go with you. I will not leave Sandara, alive or dead, in the clutches of those monsters. I will deliver her from that doom. If I must, I will return for her alone. But return I will. I begin my trek back to the caves. Mirei volunteers to accompany me.
Calistria, hath thou answered mine prayers? Hath thou giveth me strength of rage this day? …I feel it, goddess. And I will carry it to the end. Vengeance upon those that would harm her thus! Vengeance to those whom forsook us to this hell. Mirei and I circumvent the ridge and return to the cove from the sea entrance. Four creatures pose as sentinels to their layer.
Your end is nigh
Climb up the cliff. Position atop one grindylow. Drop down, spear first. The others, unsure, look on as a black ink permeates water.
One.
My spear emerges from the ink to gore another
Two.
The two remaining take up posts just outside the tunnel entrance and ready actions. I surface in front of them triggering their actions. One misses, but not the other. I respond in kind
Three.
The final makes its stand fruitlessly.
Four.
With the tunnel clear, Mirei and I make our way back inside stealthily. Should have entered at low tide before. Would have been in our favor. The tunnels are eerily empty. Guess we thinned the population a bit. We come to a chamber with 3 possible exits. The sounds of creatures can be heard from only one however
Mirei, pause here, I will scout ahead and return with news. She hands me a potion of invisibility. I thank her, knock it back, and scout the tunnel. It ends in a large, flooded chamber. The water is littered with debris, most of it corpses of some kind or another. Three creatures inhabit the chamber. The grindylow wearing Sandara’s hat, an angry female grindylow, and a large whale like thing. Above, dangling from seaweed and sinew….
Now is the winter of my discontent, made glorious summer by Besmara’s own. I have found you! Now to free you. With her also is Tilly Brackett and someone I recognize from the Man’s Promise. Humans…. better to have you as allies than to wind up your corpse. You too will come with as well.
Sneak back to Mirei, get her to cast Cure L. Wounds on me. Suddenly 3 splooshes in water can be heard followed by commotion from the chamber. I sneak back.
Player aside: Somehow, even like… 60 god damn feet away, with cave ambiance, and all the racket the creatures are making in the chamber, somehow they can still hear Mirei cast her little spell. I guess spellcasters can’t cast without fucking screaming at the top of their lungs. Shenayays homie, shenaynays. The DC for that perception check should have been like… I don’t know… higher than it was. Just sayin… Ok that’s the end of my rant… because what follows turned out pretty epic.
Back at the chamber Shit! They’re in the drink. Alas, we’re discovered. So much for that advantage. Sneak into the water. Begin swimming after the my ship mates. The whale swims right above me, narrowly missing me. Soon I pass a large tentacle thing with teeth everywhere (a devilfish).
Really?
Finally catch up with them at the bottom. A pair of shackled ghouls await. One swipes at me and lands its hit Doth this forsaken gape not bear enough yet?
Pat Tilly on the shoulder as a sign of benevolence, cut her loose, and hand her my flail. She blindly swims to the surface. Cut Sandara free and place her on my shoulders, then cut Goyle Free. Begin swimming back up.
I must succeed.
About half way, the whale makes a lunge for Sandara (being that I’m still invisible. Use a hero point to brace my spear against its attack. It attempts to swallow us whole…. Rage on…. I crit the monster, stabbing it repeatedly from the inside. Its jaws land a few deep bites in my flesh.
No more shall they rend thy flesh. I shield Sandara from the bites, taking the all the damage. I do however survive it and keep going, watching as the devil fish blows bast and begins feasting upon the whale’s corpse. Enjoy creature. And toil not with us.
As I continue my way up, I notice Tilly embroiled in… something… with a small squid monster. Guess I ought deal with thine troubles too. Spear it. Kill it. Now I have to clutch my spear in my mouth, Sandara on my shoulders, and an unconscious Tilly Brackett with a dead squid stuck to her. Mirei calls out to me through a message spell she had cast prior to my entering the water. She asks me to gurgle if I’m still alive.
Gurgle, gurgle…. lose the spear…. because god forbid I should be able to gurgle with a spear in my mouth. Apparently one can only make noises when their mouth is empty.
Attempt to grab it with my feet. Fail. Fantastic. And it would appear that Tilly hath lost MY weapon….sigh Surface. No other creatures in sight. Mirei helps me get Sandara and Tilly above water.
Session ends with Mirei and I looking over Sandara and Tilly, wondering where Goyle is.
