Unbeknownst to them, many members of the crew of the Wormwood were at the inn scouting for people they could force into service on their ship.
The Fate of Sho
Sho, who had come to meet a man and gain information about ruins in the shackles, was drugged by her contact who was Kipper disguising himself to lure prospects to the inn. After she was knocked out she was stripped of her possessions and taken to the Wormwood’s hold.
The Fate of Mirei
Mirei hadn’t been in Port Peril long but she felt drawn to it. She wasn’t sure why she had come but she knew this was where she needed to be. She stopped by an inn near the docks, the Formidably Maid, for a few drinks before heading off into the night to find a good place along the dockside road to look out into the still waters of the bay.
It was a fairly dark night, but a thin crescent moon still reflected off of a glassy bay in the still of night. Mirei had no idea she had been followed, she didn’t suspect any danger, she was engrossed in the ever-present song of the sea. Syl Lonegan slipped from shadow to shadow behind Mirei, she had tailed her from the Formidable Maid and now crept ever closer.
A good hit with a sap rendered Merei unconscious. Syl smiled to herself as she noted how much closer her quarry had gotten to the Wormwood. This small stroke of luck meant less work for her. She quickly searched the body for anything of value that Grok or Scourge might not expect to come from this soon-to-be crew member before dragging the body across the dock and into the hold of the ship.
The Fate of Rak
Rak had come to the inn specifically to find his fortune with a pirate crew. Yet, before he had a chance to find one of promise, he was taken in by the impressive array of boisterous and busty wenches and the few beautiful female patrons. His eyes ultimately landed on one Melina Drakesworn. Master Scourge watched as Rak seduced the particularly pretty half-elf and drank deep of both her and what seemed to be a sea of libations.
Scourge had an arrangement with Ms. Drakesworn, the particular woman Rak had fallen in with, while she liked her fun her past was fraught with pirates coming back for more then she intended. As a precaution to ensure no unwanted advances from her marks she had pre-arranged with several crews that after she had her way with her men they would be taken against their will out to sea on outbound ships. Scourge grinned as they went up to the room and then signaled for Patch and Shivikah to go collect their prize. It was quick work, they beat Rak senseless in the bed he’d just thrashed, bagged the body, and dragged it out the back and to the hold of the Wormwood.
The Fate of Harvus
Harvus had been working in Port Peril for some time and came to the Formidable Maid to attempt to enjoy a drink his work day. It wasn’t long before a group of ruffians came over to the “the hawk that can talk”, they had a bone to pick with the Strix and wouldn’t be dissuaded from their course thinking they would gang up on him. Master Scourge grinned as he watched the conflict escalate. He’d put the men up to it as he needed to gauge how many of the his own men he would need to take down the Strix. He’d been tipped off that Harvus might make a good member of the crew if his spirit could be broken by some people in town who hadn’t taken kindly to the beatings the “hawk” had handed out in his years working in Port Peril.
It didn’t take much effort for Harvus to best the three who’d been put to the task of goading him, however a table and two chairs were casualties of the exchange and the manager of the Formidable Maid was none-to-pleased. He gave the Strix, the only conscious member of the exchange, a piece of his mind. This gave Scourge enough time to get his men in position. Quick orders put Tam, and Maheem and Jaundice outside to wait for the Strix as he left the inn. He whispered his plan to Aretta as they continued to watch Harvus from the corner where they were orchestrating the collection of new crew members.
After the manager finished his lecture Harvus finished his drink and left the inn. Scourge wasn’t far behind, following the Strix out into the night. A block down the road Harvus was confronted by the group that Scourge had sent ahead as an ambush. They had picked the darkest street corner in the area, but the three still had a fight on their hands as Harvus had no intention of being taken upon by yet another set of brigands. The clearly riled Strix seemed ready to hand out another harsh beating but this was all part of the plan. Aretta was able to use the commotion to run up a beam the Strix across the head with a small club.
Scourge was pleased with their work that night, they had gained five suckers for the crew. The Wormwood would be setting sail, in the cover of night, in about two hours time. Scourge kicked the Strix hard in the stomach to check how unconscious he was, then knelt down next to Harvus’ prone form and carefully moved his hand down his back to the wing. He grasped the left wing of the “hawk” in his hands and gave it a sicking twist then stood up to admire his handy work. Satisfied that would be enough to keep the Strix from becoming a major issue he signaled the other four off and they whisked him away to the Wormwood.
